As tends to happen when I’m in my insomnia phase, I’m filled with creative energy, happy thoughts and the need to reach out to all and connect. Which would explain the onslaught in my twitter and facebook feeds. I really should give my friends and family a warning so that they can hide me for a couple of days as to not be attacked by song lyrics and youtube videos.
I’ve been feeling really homesick for the theatre lately. Maybe it’s with spring now here, makes one long for renewal and that recharge of a new season.

| When we got locked out of the theatre and were waiting on the crew member who had the keys. |
I’ve been combing youtube for musical clips. (Netflix has a sad, little amount of musicals available for instant watch). I did stumble upon Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and man it just made me so happy. And terribly nostalgic. I’m longing for my theatre peeps.
To put on a show. Starting with the read-thru on like, a Thursday night, all sitting around in chairs in the black box theatre or the classroom, pencils in hand ready to take down a quick little note of first impressions. The first days of putting the show on it’s feet and taking numerous blocking notes. The 2nd week in when you start getting really familiar with your script and the pages have smudges. The costume fittings, the start of tech involvement when props are starting to trickle in and you see the lighting and set people doing their very awesome designy things. The smell of saw dust as the framework starts to take shape. The sound of the sewing machines as the costume crew hems pants. The dry tech rehearsal from hell where things are slow moving but fun to volunteer to walk for your best friends as they help you find your perfect light. The wet tech that lasts 65 hours and you sit in the green room losing your mind and not really caring cause you’re doing something that you love with people that you respect. Dress rehearsal where you enter through the stage door and check in. The smell of makeup and hairspray. Your costume hanging in the dressing room with your name labeling everything. Opening night where you have all this excited, nervous energy to finally just do this thing. Photo call where you animate! After show late night dinner at crumby, awesome dives, consuming way too much greasy, yummy food that just hits the spot. Closing night with the thrill and rush of having put on a good show. The cast and crew party where you get smashed cause you’ve earned some silliness.
I miss it all.
I love it all.
