Who is she? Actor, writer, book slinger, miniature enthusiast, insomniac.

It was such a busy week! I’m most definitely ready for the weekend!

I finally got all my nonfiction books shelved! With the help of my fellow librarians, of course.

Apparently I like to take photos of my feet! I wore my bright orange cords on Halloween Craft & Story Day! The kids had a blast making Halloween themed crafts and scarfing down frosting loaded cupcakes. And then we sent them home with their parents and guardians all hopped up. šŸ™‚

There was one scissor–leg incident. šŸ™‚

I wore my zombie apocalypse boots to work. I just love the blue zipper on these dudes!

And lastly, I did my first audition in 5 YEARS! I auditioned for Peter Pan at The Vortex Theatre. I did stupendously horrible! And, honestly, I couldn’t have had a bigger smile on my face when I exited the stage from such a spectacular failure! šŸ˜€

I was so stressed all week trying to get a monologue together. I almost cancelled my audition because I just didn’t feel prepared. I kind of overcommited myself to various music shows and just felt so anxious. But the second I mentioned not going to the audition, my family and friends all insisted that I should do it! I’m so lucky to have such a strong support base in my wonderful friends and family.

I got to the theatre a tad early and was looking over my monologue and trying not to be distracted by the other (giggling and seemingly carefree) actors milling about the lobby. When my name was called I was super excited to be in the black box space. The director and stage manager seemed so friendly! And then…I totally botched my material. I had to start over and then managed to skip half my monologue when it should have been 1-2 minutes long, and probably ended up being like 25 seconds long. (I hope I’m slightly exaggerating that…)

They looked over my resume and inquired about shows I’d done recently (which I stupidly forgot to include on my resume!) And they filled me in on call back information. I then booked it out of the space and through the lobby and to my car and called my best friend Jamie to fill her in on my spectacular failure! šŸ™‚

I really hope I get called back so I can really show the director and SM what I can do. Auditions are just such a weird creature. A necessary evil in the acting biz I guess.

One last note: It sure is pretty freakin’ intimidating walking into a room of actors where 5 other girls are your exact type and auditioning for the same exact role…BUT, thankfully, I had constant competition in college in my 5 friends, where we all competed for the one wife role offered us a year. šŸ™‚

I survived! And now its the weekend, and I couldn’t be more happy!

Have a great Halloween weekend! I think I’ll watch some Shaun of the Dead!

*This title is from my friend Jamie. We used to have a Eugene O’Neill Theatre poster hanging in our greenroom in college that had that slogan on it. We used to quote it ALL the time.

Totally digging the zombie apocalypse boots with the blue zipper!

It's funny that I just read your post about your audition as this is something I've been thinking about myself lately — getting back into theatre after being away for so long. I hope you get a call back.
